THE NAME

www.dbzqp.com domain spawned from necessity for a testing website designs. I registered the domain and used it to develop websites to show clients prior to rolling to production. I’ve used it long enough and decided to grant it the privilege of hosting actual content and thus DeZeinen was born.

How did I come up with DeZeinen?

To answer that, I must first delve back to when the domain was first registered. I wanted something that looked interesting and rolled off the tongue easily. A “d” and “b” look kind of neat back to back and the upside down version of “q” and “p” gave it a “turning the world upside down” look. However, “dbqp” domain was already registered, so I needed something that would represent the flipping of the “db” to “qp”. The only letters in lower case that might be considered for this task was either “x” or “z”, in the end “z” won the coin toss.

Now that I decided to do something with the website, what should I do with it? What kind of acronym does “dbzqp” stand for?

"Designing Better Quality Products"

– seemed like a nice fit, but what would the “z” stand for? So I toyed with Dezine and Dezining, until I took the Germany/Dutch/whatever version of DeZeinen. The naming came mostly because I was looking at a Stein sitting on the self near my desk. I was debating alternate spellings, primarily with the long “eye" sound, (if you know what I mean).

That’s where dbzqp came from and when I decided to give it an actual website of it’s own, I reverted back to dbxqp. This was to change the name of the site slightly to wehre it is now, “DeZeinen Better X Quality Products”. This enabled both the original site name and the new domain name to merge into one. Both URL’s direct you to the same place and here you are.

So now what?

Two things really, I'm going to continue to build websites and I'll use this site for requests. A few websites you can reference below. In addition to that I've developed a new product that is still under patent search. Following the process of the this product, I may opt to continue with other “inventions” as I go along (got a few more ideas). Since the website is based on inventing/designing new things, I choose to include RSS feeds from other sources that might be of interest.

In the future I would like to display, or provide a launching pad for new designs/inventions. There are a lot of places to visit and gather information, but I hope to make this one easy and enjoyable. Plans include links to other resouces and "my" description of the source, perhaps include a star rating. I may consider producing a forum or comments blog.

I hope you enjoyed my story and site. Please bookmark it for all the “kewl” things it provides today and tomorrow.

THE LOGO

Every great website needs a logo, so I set out to design one. I liked the blue and red in the style sheet used for the site and wanted to incorporate some white, because I’d like to think I’m patriotic and wanted a red, white and blue site. I was going to include an American flag, but haven’t found one I really liked yet. Don’t think I’m not looking though.

Anyway, I started with a red dot against a blue background and started playing with the middle to depict the dbzqp or dbxqp in white. Nothing was working out as slick as I thought. I went with trying to find a nice looking “z” in different fonts, mainly because the original site was dbzqp.com. I had almost given up when I hit the “wingdings” font and “BAM!” there it was the letter “z” that looks like a “dbqp” intertwined in a continuous loop.

After deciding to change the URL to dbxqp, the logo still looked great, because it looks kind of like an “X”. This design includes both the “dbzqp” and the “dbxqp”… combined… together… joined… one… bottom-line it was awesome in my eyes. So there you have the story behind the logo.

I hope you enjoyed the story and the website, thanks for reading and have a great day.
